Custom domains

Point your own domain at a site with a CNAME and get SSL automatically.

User guide

Serve a site from your own domain. Malla uses Cloudflare for SaaS: you point a DNS record at Malla, and the SSL certificate is issued and renewed for you.

Connect a domain

  1. Add it

Open Site settings → Domains. Under Add a domain, enter the hostname, such as www.example.com, choose the environment it serves (usually production) and press Add.

  2. Add the DNS records

Malla shows the records to add at your DNS provider: a CNAME that routes traffic to Malla, and the TXT records Cloudflare asks for to prove ownership and issue the certificate. Copy each name and value with the copy buttons.

    dns
    Type Name Value Purpose
    CNAME www.example.com <the Malla target shown> routing
TXT <name shown in Malla> <value shown in Malla> ownership
TXT <name shown in Malla> <value shown in Malla> certificate

  3. Wait for verification

Press Check status. Once the records resolve, the domain verifies and its certificate is issued. This usually takes minutes, sometimes longer while DNS propagates.

  4. Publish

Publish to the environment the domain serves. It now answers with your site.

Root domains

Many DNS providers do not allow a CNAME on the root (example.com). Use www as your main domain, or a provider that supports CNAME flattening or ALIAS records.

Remove a domain

Press Remove next to it, then Confirm remove. The site stops answering on that hostname; remove the DNS records at your provider afterwards.
